Lyra seems to enjoy the process of drawing the teeth. Her thinking seems to be that there are a lot of them so she should just draw a lot. So instead of considering how many that might be she just decides to draw the lines very close together and keep going until she's filled the space. That should then be 'a lot'.
I hinted at her about the nose but she still likes to draw that as a dot or spot. It's a little button at the centre of the face. Notice how the nose is always right between the eyes. The spatiality of objects is simplified along the horizontal. I have an eye, a nose and then another eye and they sit across my face.
She did really well with the eyes this time. She drew them after the circle of the head. Usually they would be dots but she copied mine and I think she understands the concept of the pupils now.
She wanted to do the cheeks like I had done but liked the splash of colour so much she did two on each side. And why not. I guess she doesn't think of cheeks as being two dots on the face like you would if you were drawing them as a caricature. There are no rules though right?
The eyebrows had to be prompted. She'd copied mine before but seemed to forget this time so when prompted she tried to squeeze them into the limited space she had left above the eyes. She couldn't imagine that they might be able to live out of the bounds of the face. I shall draw some faces with features breaking out to see if she can appreciate it. Let's see how she gets on next time.

Lyra had a really great time at the Lollibop festival in Stoke Newington at the weekend. She enjoyed the dressing up bit a lot and was a natural on the catwalk! Another little girl nearly ran off with her skirt but Les managed to nab it back which was lucky.
I was surprised they allowed a REAL Polar Bear to roam around with all those children but it did seem to be a friendly Bear and no-one got mauled ... which was nice.
Overall a fantastic festival for kids and it was great to catch up with our good friends Emyr and Bal and their handsome lad Rohan.
